Censored everywhere

Having things censored lets go of the first amendment which is freedom of speech..

At school, we have a tech crew who is able to look at and see whatever sites we go to, i'm sure they're able to read what i'm writing right now too. But the fact that a lot of the internet sites here are blocked stops us from learning sometimes. Some of the sites that are blocked are completely unnecessary. Yeah, they might have a couple "naughty words" or a picture, but in some history classes, that might be necessary. If you're trying to look at art from the past, a lot of it consists of those elements. If they want us to be able to learn here at school, they need to be a little more lenient on what happens on the computers here.
If someone is looking up inappropriate things, then there's no problem with maybe blocking there internet, or just keeping a closer watch on them, but to have so many things restricted here, doesn't make sense. We're able to access it everywhere else, it's not like it's something we've never seen. They may think they're protecting us or having some kind of control, but they're very wrong.

Not trying to offend any member of the tech crew, or anyone who disagrees, just getting my opinion out there!

That makes so much sense. I mean I understand where they are coming from, because there are the few kids who do naughty things on purpose, but I don't think that punishing everyone else...especially in an educational way is the best way to go with this.

I'm not lost in the world. I'm just taking a detour. said...

I agree. I came from a school where the only things that where blocked were the graphic sites and the gaming sites. This school is so worroied but there arpearance. If one parents decides that they are going to sue the school because the schools computers showed there kid something the schools out money. Not only that but then the reputataion doesnt look good either.

Yup. You've got it Nicole; excellent blog!

Although it might not just be the techies involved, it may be a higher group of people in charge that controls the censorship; but what the heck?! Whoever thinks that all of these websites need to be blocked must be a very power-hungry person. Cool--teenagers think funny jokes, pictures and games are comical; but what about the websites that are factual? They need to understand that we need to be able to do research that may be seen as innappropriate. Yeah it could be considered offensive to Some people who think every little awful thing in the world should be covered up. But it's going on, and it's news! Even in history; some pretty horrific things have gone down in the history of the world that we LEARN about, so why is almost Every Single Website blocked because of it? Honestly, I think the techies and whatever administrative people are in charge on this issue should find something better to think about and spend their time worrying about.

bye!! =)
